At times, as we age, we’re hit square between the eyes with the realization of our own mortality.
It happened quite recently when someone very close to me was stricken with double pneumonia and spent five days in the hospital, sometimes not aware of what was going on around him (he was pretty damn sick!).
Fortunately, his overworked body, as well as his mind and spirit, are as hard as the nails he pounds, and he is well on the mend.
On the day after he was released from the hospital, as I stepped into his office, I could see that his face was not as I remembered it, even a couple of short months ago. His eyes didn’t have the typical sparkle and his demeanor was not strong and forthright as normal.
After having eaten a couple of hearty meals and getting caught up on some not-purposely-put-off- business matters of his, it’s now two days later and his old irascible self has returned.
His eyes are clear.
The timbre is back in his voice.
His face has miraculously filled out and is smiling.
He’ll be fine for a number of years, decades, whatever.
Yeah, when things like that happen, it makes you think.
Here’s what I think: I’ve had a pretty damn fun life, am still having fun, I have kids that are wonderful, a great woman at my side, and I’m still pretty active and healthy at my grand ol’ age of sixty-eight. I’d like to be around and enjoying myself for a long while to come.
I also think this: I see people everywhere, both young and old, who are overweight and obese, many morbidly. I know, after having read what the government “recommends” and what the vast majority of M. D.’s are still ignorantly spouting, that these good folks are simply the victims of a society that is essentially run by who happens to have the most money and power.
Never mind that these dietary and nutritional philosophies have been proven to be false time and time again, the ‘powers that be’ continue to provide us with information and recommendations that will ensure the continuance of the obesity epidemic and put even more money in the pockets of those industries that make a profit from fat and the preventable diseases that result from it.
And it pisses me off!
WHY?
Because, by now, these highly intelligent people who are at the head of these industries know damned well why the population of the USA, (and now the rest of the industrialized world), is getting fatter and sicker.
Talk about corporate greed and false policy!
For the leaders of these organizations, companies and industries to think that it’s okay to sit back and watch people get fatter and sicker, while their own bank accounts grow, is absolutely disgusting ….AND IMMORAL!.
Diseases like sleep apnea, type ll diabetes, heart disease, some types of cancer, high blood pressure, high cholesterol (BTW, a myth), arthritis, and many others are preventable with a healthy diet.
And, oh yeah……..REVERSIBLE!
You see, the body is a wonderful machine that can and will heal itself of most diseases from the moment you begin to properly take care of it. From a cellular level on up, it can completely renew itself every ten years.
But, if you’re the typical consumer, that’ll never happen.
Do you still have your appendix? If not, don’t worry about it, ‘cause you don’t need it.
Our appendix was originally a second stomach. Like our tail-bone, or coccyx, it is a vestigial organ (that’s no longer needed), but a remnant of which still exist within our bodies.
During the early years of man, when we truly hunted and gathered our food, when such food was available we ate as much as we possibly could in the event that the next chance to eat wouldn’t be available for quite a while. Thus, the second stomach.
For the past few thousand years, the availability of a food source has become such that we not only don’t need a second stomach, we’re surrounded by ‘food’ on a continuous basis. And not much of it is any damn good for the welfare of our bodies, which process it the same as it recognized and processed food thousands of years ago.
In fact, most of what we consume simply confuses the body into thinking that it’s a foreign substance (which it is). It is nutritionally devoid of anything that our cells would welcome and process to maintain our health.
It sees what we consider to be nourishment as something alien and attacks it as such. What happens is inflammation occurs at the cellular level.
Unlike a surface inflammation (part of the healing process) that occurs when we cut or bruise ourselves, we can’t feel it and don’t know anything is wrong until our immune system gets overloaded and unable to handle this growing amount of inflammation and we get sick. So we go to the doctor and have the batches of expensive tests that, of course, will reveal some sort of abnormality that will result in the prescription of a patented pharmaceutical which will, more than likely, cause a side (or direct) effect that will lead to more prescriptions of more patented pharmaceuticals, and so on….causing you a lifetime of consuming these patented pharmaceuticals that cure nothing.
And, it all began with us believing all of the hype and clever marketing produced by BIG MEDICAL, BIG PHARMACEUTICAL and BIG FOOD (all BIG $$$$$).
What is happening is that we are, quite literally, digging ourselves early graves with a knife and fork.
Just a thought, but can you imagine how the cost of health care would drop if we simply started eating a healthful diet? WOW, what a concept!
Okay, if you believe in what the government and these staid ‘institutions’ say, just keep on doing what you’ve been doing and see what happens….it won’t be pretty.
If, on the other hand, if you choose to believe me, “the fat loss rebel”, and all of the other healthy, homeopathic and alternative medicine MD’s and scientists (and others) whose work and writings I’ve studied and researched, be prepared to enjoy many future healthy and happy decades on this good earth, having your kids and grandkids grow and prosper…..with you beside them.
Yeah, my brother’s illness got me thinking…..that the awareness of my own mortality could allow me to help a lot of other folks make their lives longer, healthier and MUCH happier.

My advice will help anyone who is overweight or obese and, especially, those of you who have one or more of the aforementioned ‘diseases’, that I term ‘temporary conditions’ (because that’s what you’ll probably find them to be).
Today’s health tip: “It’s the sugar, stupid”! (know what I mean?)
